Musings and News for the New Year

new year musings

David WilhelmBooze & Bites

At the dawn of each New Year it naturally occurs to me to do two things. The first is to take stock of the year that has just passed. What did I accomplish, what did I not get around to doing that I had hoped to, what friends did I make or lose, what regrets do I have, did I check off anything on my bucket list, what am I most grateful for, and most importantly, what did I learn from everything that transpired in my life this past year?

Once I have been able to put all these thoughts into a nice little bundle, (yeah right) I move on to the next thing. What are my plans and goals for the New Year? What new or different approach will I take in my activities and relationships? Are there any new items to add to my bucket list? What things in my life will I make more time for?

Inevitably it’s difficult to separate your personal life from your business, however, one area where I feel strongly that your personal life should mirror your business life is in the concept of “hospitality.”

We like to tell our staff at JFAT that we’re not in the restaurant business…we’re in the hospitality business. My mantra has always been that if we always try and treat our restaurant Guests as though they were Guests in our own home, it’s easy for us to go that extra mile to ensure their happiness and satisfaction. It’s the same thing in any business…treat your employees, customers and vendors the same way you would if you were entertaining them in your own home. Now that doesn’t mean it’s always easy to do. Most likely your home Guest wouldn’t try and rip you a new one if you over cooked his steak, but I think you get the idea here.

So as we launch into 2017 you are likely reading this because you are a JFAT diner, and hopefully a fan, and you may be wondering what new things you can look forward to this year

The first exciting news is that this month we will be opening our 5th JFAT near the Santa Monica pier.

It’s an awesome location with a huge street front patio surrounded by great neighbors and we’re excited about becoming part of the local community.

Next, as many of you know, JFAT is known for our great burgers and they are about to get even better! We are introducing an exciting new burger that is made exclusively from New York Sirloin, and as real steak lovers know, is one of the most popular and flavorful cuts of beef. This is a brand new product that is being made exclusively for JFAT.

Also unique to this product is the fact that the meat is specially chopped, not ground, which results in more of a ‘steak’ like texture, as well as flavor. This is a very ‘old school’ approach like the ‘Chopped Sirloin Steaks’ that used to be a staple on steakhouse menus for years. The cattle are all naturally raised in the Pacific Northwest and we are proud to offer this proprietary product to our JFAT menu line-up!

Lastly, many of our JFAT diners are incredible regulars, and while most of us are creatures of habit when it comes to ordering, we want to make sure that we always offering something new and different.

As a result, this year we will soon be rolling out a new weekly specials program that will allow us to feature several craveable new appetizers, burgers, flatbreads, salads, and entrees that we hope will become new favs of yours.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our customers, staff and suppliers for being able to celebrate 6 years of success at JFAT. I can promise you that your support and patronage will never be taken for granted and we look forward to years of celebrating life’s simple pleasures as well as milestones, both large and small, in our Taverns.
