As part of our DNA, it is important for us at JFAT to be an active participant in the communities that we do business in. Not only are we Green Certified restaurants and partners in the Seafood for the Future program, but we also make regular donations to the fundraising efforts of local schools and charitable organizations throughout the course of the year. Our primary selected charity at our Dana Point location is the Orange County based organization and its my personal favorite: Miracles for Kids.

I was originally introduced to them 10 years ago and I quickly realized they were a special group of people. Different from the many organizations that are focused on needy and ill children, MFK is unique in that it supports the entire families who care for their kids who have life-threatening illnesses by operating programs that provide financial aid, basic needs, and wellness to the entire family.

My first active involvement with them was in helping to deliver ‘Back to School’ and Christmas baskets to some of the families they help and I was able to see firsthand the positive effect they had. I’ve watched the impact this organization has had on the local families and communities grow by leaps and bounds since their founding in 2002 due to the tireless, selfless and generous efforts of their board, members and all the volunteers who donate their time and energy year after year. I am proud to be associated with this organization and the great group of people who make it all happen.

Each summer MFK hosts Surf & Paddle Summer Camps at Huntington Beach, Newport Beach and Dana Point for the critically-ill children they serve, along with their siblings, led by expert instructors from Billabong and Hobie. After their last session it is our pleasure to host the kids and volunteers for lunch at Jimmy’s Famous in Dana Point. It’s such a cool thing to see these kids fresh off the water with glowing smiles and excitement in their faces so I’m including some pics of this event in the hopes that you will be inspired to log onto their website at www.miraclesforkids.org and see how you could contribute to this truly wonderful and meaningful organization.
