Dear Booze & Bites heads… it’s good to be back sharing random musings with you again on our blog. It’s been a while during which there have been lots of exciting new things happening at JFAT that I’m anxious to share with you.
Some of you probably saw my recent email about the biggest recent change to our menu, but it bears repeating and can be summed up in one word… Mishima… pronounced Mee-she-muh. A very cool sounding word that has a huge history behind it and one that brings lots of new goodness to our line-up of burgers.
Mishima Wagyu Reserve beef comes from one of the original 4 breeds of full-blood black, Wagyu bulls, the Japanese breed that elevates beef to a luxury, crossed with Angus cows all bred now in the US.
Generation upon generation, the keepers of Wagyu breed selectively bred for cattle that could work long days and live long, productive lives. As a surprise side benefit, this cultivation led to key adaptations in the beef quality and nutrition, so it’s only been in the last 70 years that they have been considered ‘beef’ animals. One other bi-product of these hybrid cattle being able to store energy comes in the form of mono-unsaturated fats which is half of what other breeds produce as well as high levels of Omega 3 and Omega 6 fatty acids.
Spicy Cali Burger
As you know, we pile lots of stuff onto some of our signature Burgers, so the rich flavor of the beef can sometimes get lost, but one taste of this burger patty on a plate with nothing else delivers a buttery richness and true steak flavor that is truly incomparable.
Combine that with all the health benefits, and you can see why we’re so excited about this new product.
While we’re on the subject of burgers, we have also added an item to our line-up that you may have heard of… the ‘Impossible Burger’.
This is a 100% plant-based patty that has the appearance, flavor and texture of real ground beef.
So much so that a rare few of our vegetarian friends said it crept them out because it was too much like eating real meat. Well, since we offered the IB during the month of May as an off-menu special, our Guests have been raving about it so it now has a permanent place in our line-up of burgers.
JFat Tavern Rice Bowl
The last thing I want to share with you is our new Tavern Rice Bowl. We often received comments from you about the need to have something healthier, lighter, vegetarian, not to mention vegan on our menu and we heard you! We start with our vegetarian version which is warm steamed brown rice lightly striped with Sriracha sauce to give it a little flavor pop, and then layered with fresh sautéed corn and asparagus, then sprinkled with garbanzo beans, pine nuts, avocado, Laura Chenel Goat cheese, honey-marinated tomatoes and arugula with a light olive oil drizzle on top! Delete the goat cheese and substitute regular vine-ripened tomatoes the you have a delicious vegan dish. Want to add some lean protein? Blackened Ahi, Ahi Poke, grilled chicken, Wagyu steak, spiced Shrimp, a sunnyside egg, or even grilled Salmon are all available and make this a very substantial dish.
I invite your stop in your local JFAT soon and check out these dishes and feel free to post comments about them.
Wishing you all a fun packed summer!
